Datum, a practice lost in the modern world, has been for centuries an obligatory religious ceremony to celebrate Kalinga manhood.
As the ceremonies for the young warrior takes place, dancing and singing are being held at the home of the warrior celebrant. A carabao or big pig is butchered, “basi” or sugar cane wine is freely served. The “Dinnayan” or victory song, “Balloga,” a love song and Cayoyogan are sung. Before sunset, a selected Mandadawak prays over the young warrior to the mighty Kabunian.
From this time on, he is counted among his peers of the noble and the brave.
