Some film clips from the start of Mercury program, before any of the astronauts had flown in space. Alan Shepard discusses his role as Capcom, John Glenn talks about the white room and capsule testing, Wally Schirra discusses extended suit testing.
Shepard and Glenn clips were taken in April 1961, and are a bit rought - they don't seem to have been used in any documentary. The Schirra segment comes from "The Mastery of Space".
Original colors were very faded and with intense color casts. Restauration allowed to achieve an overall neutral balance, and more realistic skin tones. As part of the correction, areas with missing or limited color information are presented as gray or very unsaturated.
