The previous deck that we tore out did not have any support outside of the home. The previous deck was the floor joists of the home cantilevered past the wall of the home. There was no rim board on the home, only blocking between the joists acting as a false rim. In order to achieve lateral support we had to install a Simpson Strongtie DTT2Z hanger w/ 1/2" threaded rod.
