We had just come in from humpback whale watching and we saw thousands of fish dying in the shallows right in front of us! There were whales in the Port San Luis Harbor in the morning chasing these anchovies around for food. There were huge bait balls in the harbor! Humpbacks, sea lions, harbor seals, gulls, pelicans, and other creatures all eat these small fish!
These fish likely died because of lack of oxygen in the shallow water. There were other small fish dying also. Super sad to see them all dying so fast and not even getting eaten.
