Liszt's eleventh symphonic poem, 'The Battle of the Huns', is based on a Kaulbach painting that depicts a battle between Huns and Romans. Liszt's instructions in the score state that the instruments must make ghostly sounds—these instructions are kept in Stradal's piano reduction. Liszt himself had arranged the piece for four hands on piano, but Stradal's main claim-to-fame is having arranged all of Liszt's symphonic poems for solo piano. The arrangement is faithful to the original work, recreating the stormy introduction and the battle cries that are heard throughout.
