The 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series update is a big deal in a number of ways, with the largest being its introduction of a second turbo-diesel engine option: a 2.8-litre four-cylinder unit shared with the Toyota's HiLux ute and Prado 4WD – and it comes paired with a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
That's right; the LC70 is finally available with a two-pedal set-up, but it comes at the cost of four cylinders, with V8 buyers having to continue to exclusively make do with a five-speed manual gearbox – if you're able to even take delivery of one, but more on that in this video.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Stephen Ottley gets behind the wheel of the updated LandCruiser 70 Series range at its Australian media launch to find out if the new engine-transmission combination has improved the breed. And yes, he'll also talk about the 'new' styling.
