The EU withdrawal bill passed committee stage yesterday evening after eight days of debate and an embarrassing defeat over the issue of a meaningful vote on the final Brexit deal. The UK government survived a series of amendments, passing the fixing of the date of Brexit and the change allowing MPs to amend it if needed. The bill moved to the report stage to return to parliament on the 16th of January.
Britain is expected to start transition negotiations in the New Year. There are at present 759 bilateral agreements between the EU and other countries that could need renegotiation.
