Transcript:
Human Factors International provides two kinds of certification in user experience design..
We have the CUA -- Certified Usability Analyst, and that's the first certification anyone should take. That certification measures the ability of somebody to understand practices in understanding users, designing for users' needs and limitations, testing a design, and applying research to those designs. Being able to read research and understand how it's impacting the proper design decisions.
The second certification is the CXA -- or Certified User Experience Analyst. And that's the more advanced certification. You can only take that certification test once you have already passed the CUA. The CXA is an evaluation of the more advanced user experience design capability. It's an evaluation of the capability to work in digital strategy, looking at things like metatrends and design trends and business models. It looks at the ability to work in Innovation, not just coming up with innovative ideas, but systematically modeling users and innovating to fulfill their needs. It looks at working with persuasion engineering principles, and applying those principles to design, as well as innovation and strategy. And finally it looks at the ability to work with a fully institutionalized operation, doing industrial-strength usability.
I want to emphasize that you do not need to take any Human Factors International training classes to get certified. And many people, because of their expertise in the field, because of what they've read, because of their work experience, take those tests and pass. You'll notice that our training courses do match the CUA and the CXA programs, but that's because our belief about the things that are important for people to know are reflected both in the training classes and in the certification.
I think you'll find that the certification is an important credential in the field. And we have case after case where we've seen stories of people who've been promoted and who've gotten new employment based on that certification. And I know that since we started that certification the intent was that it would be able to help employers be able to select staff who they confidently knew had a certain level of expertise in the field.
And so this very successful individual certification program will continue to be provide by us on an on-going basis.
