Contemporary aircraft engine designs must balance critical weight and cost considerations with great performance. This raises the demand for the low pressure turbine component in engines with high bypass ratios. High stage loading requirements result from a combination of a low speed parameter caused by large fan diameters and a reduced number of turbine stages because of weight and cost considerations. For these high stage loadings, achieving high turbine efficiencies at low Reynolds Number operation at high altitudes is critical for modern turbofan engines. High stage loading factors result in greater airfoil flow turning for the aerodynamic design. To maintain low airfoil counts, these higher turning levels must be achieved in conjunction with an increased airfoil load.
