On June 8, 2023, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that an El Nino emerged in the Pacific Ocean. In July, NOAA forecasted that there is a 90% chance the El Nino will persist through the winter.
People on social media and in the news have claimed it could lead to a sharp increase in temperatures and extreme weather conditions in the U.S. and across the globe.
