Spent some in Phoenix, Arizona this summer producing a series of films for South Sudan Unite, a non-profit initiative lead by Luol Deng.
Day 3 of South Sudan Unite was meaningful.
The Fashion and Arts Showcase was a night of meaningful art and messages. Beyond great fashion, art, music and a surprise appearance from world renown model Grace Bol 😬, this night was designed to use art as an expression to inform and address the issues and challenges we experience as a diaspora culture. It became deeper than art. We all share a deep responsibility to express and embrace our narratives and serve each other within our own communities.
Most memorable moment for me occurred towards the end of the evening where everyone including artists, designers, athletes, engineers, musicians, doctors, lawyers, mothers, fathers, sons and daughters joined hands across the room to pray for healing, peace and unity for South Sudan. Prayer is a powerful tool we all inhabit as people. There is great power when we embrace differences, put way division and unite under God. We can all strive to be and do better.
Looking forward for you all to experience the short film coming soon from the 3-day production in Phoenix. Stay tuned. #StorytellingAfrica #SouthSudanUnite #LuolDengFoundation #AfricaInUS
