Learn about duck feet, and duck feet walking. Duck feet is when your feet turn out when you stand or when your walk. This points the knees away from the direction you are walking. Walking with duck feet causes excessive stress on the inside of the feet and the ankles and the knees. This can lead to early wearing out of the joints. It can cause knee pain. It frequently will cause flat feet. People will walk with duck feet if they do not use the standing leg to move the body forward. Many people who use flip flops ad regular footwear will walk with duck feet. This video is to open your eyes to the problems of duck feet, because most people don't think about it, and are not aware they are doing it. Other videos on the channel will address exactly how to work on fixing your duck feet. Our feet and knees are designed to face forward when we walk. When the feet are turned out as the weight is transferred over them, excessive stresses are placed over the inside arch of the feet, the ankle joints, the insides of the knees, and the hips. Over time, these abnormal stresses result in painful wear and tear.

The onset of damage and pain is so slow that people, and doctors, won't generally attribute the pain to the turn out of the feet. It would be rare for a doctor to even watch someone walk to see if the walking style may be contributing to the problem.

Many people assume that the presence of the foot turn out indicates some type of weakness in the muscles that must be corrected. I completely disagree with this. The vast majority of people who routinely wear flip flops develop this style of walking. I believe it is to keep the flip flops from flying off the feet. These people can't all coincidentally be suffering from dysfunctional muscles.
When I see patients with pain related to excessive turn out of the feet, invariably they are completely unaware that they are doing it. Sometimes they guess that perhaps the feet are turning out BECAUSE of the pain. But just like the people walking in the mall in this video, I guarantee they were walking like that long before the pain ever became an issue.
The good news is that walking style, including the duck-footed walk, can be corrected. But first the problem has to be recognized. Then practice is needed. A doctor or therapist can't correct the problem. The person with the abnormal gait must take the initiative to correct the problem.
