President Biden has continued to voice his opposition to Israel's planned full-scale Rafah offensive and said this week that the US would not supply weapons that Israel could use to launch it.
During an interview with CNN, Biden explained that the US is still committed to Israel’s defense and would supply Iron Dome rocket interceptors and other defensive arms, but added that if Israel goes into Rafah, “we’re not going to supply the weapons and artillery shells used.”
The US chose last week to pause a shipment of heavy bombs to Israel as Biden said Israel needs to do more to protect civilian lives in Gaza.
Rep. Rudy Yakym (R-IN) described this as "yet another betrayal of our close ally and friend, Israel."
In the meantime, Israeli tanks have completely surrounded the entire eastern side of the southern Gaza city of Rafah as Israel vows to begin its operation in the city if a truce deal is not reached with Hamas.
The United Nations General Assembly also voted Friday afternoon to urge the UN Security Council to consider full membership for Palestine amid the war in Gaza.
