Something weird is happening onboard one of the most remarkable NASA spacecrafts of the 20th century. Voyager 1 is a certified space soarer with over 50 years of flight time and is still going strong. But it's sending an unusual message back to NASA, and they're trying to figure out why. So what’s wrong with Voyager 1? Is it a serious issue? Will this be the end of Voyager 1? Let’s find out! In today’s video, we’re going to take a look at the mysterious troubles that Voyager 1 is currently facing and how NASA is handling it. Curious? Let’s get into it. Despite its advanced age & 14.5 billion-mile distance from Earth, Voyager 1 continues to function well. It can also receive and execute NASA commands, as well as collect and transmit science data. However, the readouts from the attitude articulation & control system, which controls the spacecraft's orientation in space, do not match what Voyager is doing. The attitude articulation & control system, or AACS, ensures that Voyager's high-gain antenna remains pointed at Earth so that data can be sent back to NASA. Because of Voyager's interstellar location, light takes 20 hours and 33 minutes to travel one way, so a single message between NASA & Voyager takes two days.
