In this video, we're going to talk about protein and why it may not be a good idea to eat protein with starch. This is part two in a three-part series. 

Starch is a bunch of glucose molecules stuck together. It's basically concentrated sugar. It breaks down a little slower than pure sugar, but it will still raise insulin. 

When you combine protein and sugar or a protein and starch, you actually get an exaggerated spike in insulin—more than if you ate these separately. It may be best not to have protein with starches or sugar. This means things like meat and potatoes are not a great idea—especially if you want to prevent blood sugar issues.
