Lance Rooke (1926 - 2016) joined the British Army in 1942, by lying about his age. He served in 6th Airborne Division, in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Ulster Rifles, and saw action in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Germany. Here Lance discusses British Army weapons such as the PIATs, Bren guns, grenades and tanks. He also describes an occasion where a Lieutenant was killed during a exercise with mortars.
In 2015, Lance was awarded the Legion d'Honneur for his role in the liberation of France:
