Seven African countries risk paying taxes of up to 16 percent on their exports to the European Union if they do not sign and honour trade agreements signed with the European Union in 2007.[TAKE: Gfx] 17 African countries have until October 2014 to ratify Economic partnership Agreements but seven; Botswana, Namibia, Cameroon, Ghana, Cote'ivoire, Kenya and Swaziland have been blacklisted for failing to conclude the negotiations. The Economic Partnership Agreement allows countries to export goods to the European Union without tariffs or maximum quotas under World trade Organization rules but some legislators in the European Union want a deadline fixed to remove the preferential status arguing that it is only a temporary solution to Africa's problems.
