This summer, I made a little tweak in my picking technique & got the biggest speed boost I can remember in recent years.

I kept testing the “tweak” on other guitarists I work with to prove it was for real and could work for others – not just for me.

It was and it did.

And if you are not playing guitar as fast as you want yet, I bet it can move the needle on your speed too.

All I did was stop following the rule everyone parrots: “pick from the wrist on individual strings… and use your forearm to change strings.”

Because as simple & logical as this rule sounds… it’s also a huge cause of many speed plateaus.

Most importantly: this tweak is reason # 497 why “guitar speed exercises” are dumb, dumber and dumberest.

Because your guitar speed is a byproduct of your guitar technique & how you practice guitar.

And if you keep practicing the same way you always had & wrestling with the same bad habits…

…you’ll never play much faster than you do right now. (No matter what exercises you find.)

But it often just takes one small tweak to how you move your hands (or how you think) to catapult your shred-loving self into Guitar Genius land.
