Let's Understand what is SEBI's New Margin Norms!
The new peak margin norms of 75% imposed by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to curb speculative trading have kicked in from June 1 ,2021.
Margin trading means that, traders can purchase shares by paying a marginal amount of the actual value to the brokerages concerned.
Under the new margin rules, 75% of the required margin for all equity and derivatives positions will be collected upfront by the brokerages.
SEBI has been implementing the new margin-trading rules, in a phased manner from last year. Between December 2020 and February 2021, Traders had to pay atleast 25% of the peak margin.
The margin was then raised to 50% between March and May, and will be 75% from June to August and will be raised to 100% from September 1, according to the market regulator.
So what is the problem Here?
As we know, 90% of the total volume in Stock Market is present in F&O. That's Why SEBI wants to save traders from making losses. So, they're eliminating the margin. As a result due to lack of funds some traders will be eliminated from the market.
This 5x, 10x, 20x, is making traders more greedy.
