Did you know that every second a truck of clothes is burnt or buried in a landfill nowadays? Moreover, on average, 100 billion garments are produced, worn and thrown away each year. As the result, the clothing mountains are rising exceptionally and less than 1% of clothing materials are recycled.
To support Eigendraads, a Rotterdam-based organization, this study explores the solution to implement a circular solution in the textile industry for reducing valueless textile waste in Rotterdam by using chemical recycling. The content starts with an introduction to the research background. Then it presents the methodology and findings of three research objectives, including the quality and quantity of the most valueless textile waste, the top three chemical recyclers, the market potential of the recycled material.
In the end, it provides the key conclusions, discussions and future recommendations of the research topic for accelerating this circular transition together with stakeholders.
