Mukesh Pandey A 29-year-old IAS officer allegedly committed suicide by coming under a train in Ghaziabad, police said on Friday, barely a week after taking charge as the top official of Bihar’s Buxar district.
The official, identified as Mukesh Pandey, is survived by his wife and two-month-old daughter.
Pandey secured the all-India 14th position in the 2012 Union Public Service Examination (UPSC), considered among the toughest competitive exams in India to select the country’s top officials.
The body was found with the head severed from the torso.
Police said Pandey was identified from official documents found on the body. A note was also found on him with mention of a “detailed suicide note” in his bag at a hotel room.
“I am committing suicide out of my own volition...,” police said quoting Pandey’s handwritten note found on the body.

“I am committing suicide in district centre area of Janakpuri in west Delhi...by jumping off the 10th floor of the building. I am fed up with life and my belief in human existence has gone. My detailed suicide note is kept in a Nike bag in room 742 of a five-star (name withheld) hotel in Delhi. I am sorry, I love you all! Please forgive me,” said the note, according to Senior Superintendent of Police H N Singh.
Pandey had checked into the posh Leela Palace Hotel in Delhi during the day on Thursday. His body was recovered from the railway tracks at around 9 pm by a team of Government Railway Police (GRP).
Investigators said they were yet to ascertain the motive for the alleged suicide but sources said marital discord could be a reason for ending his life!
