Why does your personal brand matter? In today’s digital environment, it’s extremely easy for employers to find people who claim to have the particular skill sets that the employers are seeking. This means that you have a lot more competition for a job or a promotion or to acquire new clients than ever before.
How do you stand out among the masses? First, you develop skill sets that are desired in your chosen industry, and then you pay attention to and develop your personal brand.
Your personal brand isn’t you. It’s what people think about you. This means that in addition to improving your skills, you need to be aware of, and manage, how you’re perceived by others. But those perceptions should not be your focus.
John Wooden once said, “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
So first, improve yourself and then, improve your brand.
Your personal brand matters more now than ever before, and it will matter even more in the future.
