Dr. Ravinder Reddy HOD Neonatologist and Pediatrician at Medicover Women and Child Hospitals gave a brief on preterm babies or premature babies on the occasion of World premature day. Every baby born before the completion of 37 weeks of their session is considered as preterm babies. 15 million babies are born premature every year that means 1 in 10 babies are born prematurely. Prematurity is one of the leading causes of death under 5 years of age across the world. In low-income settings, half of the babies born in less than 32 weeks die due to lack of basic care. WPD reminds all of us about the baby born too early and the health challenges they face while growing up. These babies need a lot of love, care and affection.

Some of the risk factors where there is a chance of premature delivery are:
*Maternal diabetes
*Maternal infections
*Consuming Alcohol or Smoking
*Excessive physical work
*Obesity

Treatment for Preterm labour
*Medication to reduce the Uterine contraction
*Steroids which can help in lung maturity of the babies
