Miguel Cruz faced off against Alex Martin in a scheduled 10-round welterweight bout at the Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. This fight was broadcast live on FS1 as part of the Premier Boxing Champions series.

This was the second time Cruz and Martin met in the ring. Their first bout back in January ended in a controversial split decision victory in Cruz’s favor. Martin was looking for redemption in this fight.

Round one was a bit of a feeling out round for each fighter, however Cruz managed to catch Martin with a left hook in the final seconds of the round to score the first knockdown of the fight.

Cruz maintained dominance in the early rounds and even managed to knock Martin down again in round four with a shot that Martin complained was to the back of his head. Nevertheless, the ref scored it a knockdown for Cruz.

In round five, as if in retaliation, Martin landed a blatant low blow on Cruz which sent him immediately to the canvas. This seemed to be a turning point for Martin who began to take control in the later rounds.

Unfortunately for Martin’s, his comeback efforts were not enough. The fight went the distance and the judges awarded Miguel Cruz with a unanimous decision victory. Cruz’s remains undefeated with a record of 16-0 (11 KOs).
