Crossed Swords was an arcade hack 'n slash brawler with RPG elements, developed by Alpha Denshi and published to arcades back in 1990. A year later a version was released for the Neo Geo home console.
The game took on a first-person perspective, with players slashing away at medieval themed characters and monsters with an assortment of swords. Following the path of the typical RPG, players could choose from multiple paths throughout game play, that greatly changed the outcome of the game depending on the choices made.
The main protagonist takes on the form of a wire-framed grid, similar to the original Punch-Out arcade games. He's equipped with a sword, a shield, and has special power attacks, including a spinning sword attack that quickly over powers enemies.
In between stages, players had the option to meet a merchant and upgrade their swords, as well as purchase additional health.
While the game starts to feel quite repetitive at times, the cinematic sequences in between stages were quite graphically appealing, the game become more and more challenging as progress, and new enemies do appear throughout the course of game play.
