Through late summer and into the fall, monarch butterflies begin a monumental journey across the United States. With the help of the Thoughtful Gardener, Heather Andrews, we're sharing some information about their migration and how you can help with a fall fueling station in your own garden.
The typical monarch butterfly can fly up to 100 miles per day on their migration flight and they could use our help. By providing food and habitat, we can support these beautiful butterflies along their journey. In this video, Heather shares details of their journey including how they use their antennas to travel along the same invisible map as their great grandparents.
Fall fueling stations and Monarch Waystations provide food and habitat for Monarchs as they make their journey. Waystations can be either large-scale or small-scale, as long as they provide butterflies a place to rest and refuel. The key to growing your own fall fueling station starts with the plants, native plants, annuals, perennials, and more.
