South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed on cooperation on halal food products, a move for Seoul to gain access to the global Islamic food market.
The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on the matter on Thursday asPresident Park Geun-Hye met with Abu Dhabi's Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the Middle East country.
Halal is an Arabic word meaning 'lawful' or 'permitted.' A data shows that the global halal market stood at 1.08 trillion dollars in 2012 and is expected to grow to 1.62 trillion dollars in 2018. Seoul plans to double its export of halal food products to 1.2 billion dollars by 2017.
Park's office said the UAE prince told Park that he will make efforts to boost strategic cooperative relations with South Korea.
