The winner of this year's Nobel Peace prize is the global chemical weapons watchdog overseeing the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons.
The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) currently has 27 inspectors in Damascus.
Ahmet Üzümcü, director of OPCW said the award would inspire them to continue in their work.
"This prize should be seen as an incentive and an encouragement to the efforts by the international community over the years to ban these weapons for good," Üzümcü said.
The organisation was founded in the 90s to implement a chemical weapons convention which 189 countries signed up to.
