Recently, there has been much news from the public about the plummeting marriage and childbirth rates in mainland China, with worsening signs.
"Piling up divorces" and "a fertility rate lower than South Korea's" are becoming the synonyms of Shanghai city. Numerous online posts indicate that it's now even difficult to secure a divorce appointment in Shanghai. In areas like Pudong, it can take over half a month to schedule a divorce, requiring people to wait in line for their turn.
