This summer, we teamed up with seven area animal shelters for an adopt-a-thon at PETA's Bea Arthur Dog Park in Norfolk, Virginia. Families who came out to PETA's Sam Simon Center had the chance to meet more than 30 sweet and loving dogs. The event was held in honor of what would have been the 60th birthday of The Simpsons co-creator and PETA Honorary Director Sam Simon.
Attendees of PETA's Adopt-a-Thon munched on veggie burgers and veggie dogs while playing with adoptable dogs next to the Elizabeth River. And more than a third of the dogs at the event found forever homes!
If you're in the market for a new four-legged family member, be sure to adopt from your local animal shelter—you'll get a friend for life and save a life. And don't forget to have your furry friend spayed or neutered, too. Spay and neuter procedures help prevent the births of more unwanted homeless animals.
