Spasmodic dysphonia (SD) is a rare, neurological disorder that makes speaking difficult because the vocal cords spasm when a person speaks, causing the voice to either sound choked, strangled, or breathy. The National Spasmodic Dysphonia Association is dedicated to improving the lives of people with spasmodic dysphonia and related voice conditions through research, education, awareness and support.
