The conflicting priorities interview question can also be asked in the following formats:
- how do you prioritize your work?
- how do you manage priorities
- how do you manage conflicting priorities?
- how do you prioritise your work?
- how to you prioritise tasks?
- what is your view on how to manage priorities?
The best way to answer this question is to give an example that clearly shows a situation where you've had multiple equally important conflicting priorities, and show how you decided
which to prioritise. You can demonstrate how you continuously manage priorities by regularly organising priorities that occur as they come up.
The best way to do this is to use the STAR interview method. The STAR method is an acronym for Situation Task Action Result. If you use this method when answering this question,
it's much easier to ensure your answer will include a strong example where you describe the situation (what happened), the task (what needed to be done), the action (what you did / the steps you took), and the result (what happened, what was the outcome, either on yourself, team, colleagues, customers or clients in the business). This is also a great method if you struggle with tough interview questions and answers.
