'Cheaper' doesn't always mean 'better'.
This statement applies to all Indian households that still use immersion rods.
As mentioned above, we recommend you to stretch your budget and go in for a geyser. You can always purchase an additional immersion rod for situations where portability is a concern.
Immersion Rods start from Rs. 400/- whereas Geysers can cost you a minimum of Rs. 3000/-
For those who cannot afford a geyser and have to purchase an immersion rod, we encourage you to follow these safety measures:
- The water level must lie below the maximum permitted level to prevent a short circuit.
- Immersion rods must not be used for an extended period of time - like keeping it in water overnight
- Don't touch the water in the bucket when the rod is in use.
- The controlling part of the heater should be kept dry and free from moisture.
- Only purchase branded rods that have an earth pin to prevent electric shocks
- Check that the electric wiring is proper with no openings.
- Place the heating rod in the bucket before plugging into the power source.
- Don't keep anything that catches fire easily in close vicinity to the rod
- There should be no direct contact between the bucket and the heating rod as that may cause overheating and melting of the drum.
