100 years ago today, on a misty night in Petrograd, a short bald man, Vladimir Il'ich Ulyanov, the Bolshevik leader better known as Lenin, ordered a blank shot fired from the cruiser Aurora to signal the beginning of a process that changed Russia and the world forever.
