No one wants to come back from a relaxing vacation to a plumbing disaster.
If you are going to leave on vacation for a period of time, you may want to take a few precautions when it comes to your plumbing.
The goal is to prevent any water damage that might happen if your pipes break, burst, or leak when you aren't home.
First, turn off the main water valve in your home. Next, turn on the taps and drain the water. Then, flush your toilets. This releases water pressure from your pipes. Then, if a pipe doesn't break, there will be very little pressure pushing water into your home.
Also, make sure if you are leaving during the cold weather months, you set your thermostat to at least 55 degrees to keep your home and pipes warm.
