A conic fuselage is a design for an aircraft in which the cross-section of the fuselage is shaped like a cone. This design can reduce drag by allowing air to flow more smoothly over the body of the plane. Development of this type of fuselage started in 1922 and since then, some planes have used it as their primary structure, including Concorde and Boeing's 787 Dreamliner. The shape has been most commonly seen on military jets, but its use has been slowly making its way into civilian aircraft as well. In order to understand how conic fuselage development impacts airplanes, it is important to know how airplanes fly in general. Airplanes fly by generating lift from engine thrust pushing air downwards while they are moving forwards at constant speed through the atmosphere.
