Peggy accidentally discovers that Don has a mistress. The next day, Peggy is still shocked because of Don's affair and indiscretion the day before. Betty and the kids arrive arrive at the Sterling Cooper office for a scheduled family portrait. Peggy, thinking he is having sex with his mistress, has to cover for his absence and infidelity. Peggy thinks that Don is spending his time with a woman and does not know how to effectively lie to Betty about why he is not in the office. In a state of panic, Peggy runs to Joan asking her what she should do. Joan advises Peggy to keep it simple, return to Don's office, "entertain Betty's brats", just say she forgot to remind Don and let him come up with his own excuse.
Peggy awkwardly entertains Betty. At one point, Betty makes the remark that Peggy knows Don better than she. Peggy does not say anything. Don returns and says he was at the printers. Peggy tries taking the blame, but Don plays the gracious boss. When he walks out with his family, Peggy is considerably relieved.

Elizabeth "Betty" Draper is a fictional character on AMC drama television series Mad Men. She is wife of main character Don Draper and mother of his children. Blonde and beautiful but emotionally distant and immature, she spends the bulk of the series slowly growing as a person amid the social and political turmoil of the 1960s. She voiced her suspicion that her husband was unfaithful. She told the doctor about her husband's infidelities and how much they upset her.
