2015-16 was a season to remember. With a new coach and continued uncertainty, this group of student athletes have had to deal with so much off of the court but when it came down to when it meant the most this team triumphed. They captured the imagination of an entire state with their glorious run. This year was again a roller coaster ride from the start of the season to the Big West Tournament run and a first ever NCAA Tournament win.
To show our appreciation to the boys and their families and friends miles away we put together some highlights from this past season.
2015-16 Quincy Smith. Q.
In early fall a few of us Section EE hooligans were headed to a Wahine Volleyball game on a Sunday afternoon. Right outside the athletic department offices we ran into Q who just finished working out. We told him wassup, we talked a little Golden St Warriors basketball and we told him how we were excited for this coming year. He told us and I remember it vividly, “This my senior year and I want to go to the dance”and I remember telling him “well take us there because we want to storm.”
Q got to dance and we got to storm.
When we saw Q that afternoon he was by himself. He was working out on his own. That extra effort, that perseverance, drive and determination got him a starting role and his work ethic got him the award of Most Improved Player.
Q vastly improved his game over the course of his career and he silenced a lot of the critics. Seeing him that Sunday afternoon is a big reason why.
