FODMAPs stand for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols. They are short chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and are prone to absorb water and ferment in the colon.
It is recommended for patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
But it is only for a short time. Because it causes a negative impact on the gut microbiota and metabolome.
