Documentary about maritime shipping around the Wadden Sea island of Texel, with special attention paid to the rescue exercises of the Noord- en Zuid-Hollandsche Redding-Maatschappij (North and South-Holland Rescue Society).
Prior to the filming of the rescue exercises, we see images of the ports of Nieuwediep and Oudeschild on the island of Texel. We also see postal transport by ship, and “German minesweepers on the moorings of Texel”. This is followed by the rescue exercises, which are carried out by the rescue station of the Noord- en Zuid-Hollandsche Redding-Maatschappij in the northern part of Texel.
The lifeboat is taken out of the storage facility, and is drawn by horse to the coast, under the supervision of “the committee of local government”. The rescuers row the boat out to sea. After the exercise, the horses drag the boat back to its storage space. Finally, we see the 93-year-old Teunis Dogger, “the oldest inhabitant of Texel, who has experienced many rescue operations".
