MAGIC! appeared at the CHUM FM Fanfest, Friday May 9th, during Canadian Music Week 2014.
MAGIC! performed Don’t Kill The Magic, the title track and second single from their debut album. A sinuous guitar hook from Mark Pelli anchored the track, another pop-reggae groove ideal for summer listening. Lead singer Nasri led the crowd mid song as they sang along with the chorus. The band was relaxed and cool on stage, obviously enjoying themselves. Mark finished the song shredding a tasty guitar solo.
Formed in 2012, MAGIC! is composed of Nasri Atweh, Mark Pelli, Alex Tanas and Ben Spivak, following on the heels of Nasri’s phenomenally successful songwriting and production career as a member of the Messengers. After working with such artists as Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Shakira and Christina Aguilera, being nominated for, and winning Grammies, Nasri was collaborating with guitarist Mark Pelli, where things just fell into place. As Nasri put it, “That's even where we derived the band name. Everything simply worked like MAGIC!"
Their debut single, the Police-inspired reggae groove, “Rude”, debuted in 2013, climbing to number two in Australia and New Zealand and number six in Canada. Their second single, title track “Don’t Kill The Magic,” hit the Canadian Hot 100 in June 2014, peaking thus far at number 22.
The debut album from MAGIC! dropped July 1, 2014.
