Curral das Freiras ('Nuns Valley') is a village nestling between mountains in the heart of Madeira.
Eira do Serrado and Paredão are excellent locations to see the magnificent views of this parish.
The bus from Funchal to the Valley of the Nuns is no. 81.

Today’s 'Nuns Valley' has a great annual celebration- the ‘Chestnut Festival’.
In the Valley of the Nuns (Curral das Freiras), chestnuts grow in abundance and are used to make local produce.
To avoid the twists and turns of the steep roads you can take a day trip that includes a round-trip transfer. Half-day tours from Funchal generally combine the valley with the Eira do Serrado viewpoint and Câmara de Lobos, where you can sample the Madeiran Poncha.
