Section 28 prohibited the "promotion of homosexuality". Gay rights campaigners fought to have this law abolished.
Hypocritically, these same groups are now pushing for a reverse law to be introduced that prohibits promotion of heterosexuality. This is the push to ban so called "conversion therapy".
The definition of "Conversion Therapy" is so loose, it includes discussion: "any attempt to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression".
This law is apparently needed to stop electric shock treatment and corrective rape. However electric shock treatment for this purpose has not been used for decades in the UK and rape is already illegal. Straw men. In reality this law would criminalise speech, a parent who tries to dissuade their child from taking hormone blockers.
If it is legal to promote and celebrate lesbian, gay and trans identity while it is criminal to promote heterosexual identity, this will surely result in more undecided young people being pushed to lesbian, gay and trans identity than would otherwise be the case.
