This is day 1 of my four day Rim 2 Rim backpacking adventure in the Grand Canyon. I started my journey at the North Kaibab Trailhead located on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and will be hiking to the South Rim via the Bright Angel Trail over these 4 days. I will be camping at each of the three camp grounds located below the rim: Cottonwood Campground, Bright Angel Campground and Havasupai Garden Campground.
Day 1 takes me to the Cottonwood Campground. Points of interest along the way are the Supai Tunnel and the Roaring Spring Waterfall. I will only be hiking 6.7 miles this first day, all down hill. I started off early in the morning to avoid the afternoon heat down in the canyon. Be sure to bring your trekking poles because it is straight down (4k feet elevation loss) and some of those steps are big ones!
If it isn't already I highly recommend adding this backpacking adventure to your bucket list. It is one of my top 3 all-time favorite backpacking trips.
