Gamification can be a powerful tool in health technology, encouraging critical learning about health and wellness through play. Michael Fergusson, CEO of Ayogo Health, a gamification platform for health, talks about what makes games for healthcare so unique and where so many health tech developers go wrong.
Michael says the most sticky games mirror real life – where our decision-making and everyday behavior is guided by unknown and uncontrolled circumstances. Though understanding the fundamental principles of game design is not easy, digital health developers shouldn’t be afraid to include agency, conflict and challenges, uncertainty, discoverability, and real outcomes that match real-life.
Filmed at ICEE Health in Bucharest, Romania, June 2018.
