The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was dedicated to Our Lady as a patronal Church of the United States under the title of Immaculate Conception and it is a place the country comes to invoke the intercession of Our Lady. Monsignor Walter Rossi is the reactor of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. It is the largest Roman Catholic Church in all of North America and home to more than 8 chapels and oratories honoring the Blessed Virgin, earning it the moniker, Mary's Shrine. But long before the basilica was dedicated to Our Lady, Monsignor Rossi says the Mother of God already had a presence in our country. He says, "From day one, when our country was founded by Christopher Columbus, you know he landed in what is now Florida and it was not only there that he planted a cross, but also brought with him an image of Our Lady and so from the very beginning of this nation before we were even a country Our Lady was present."
