All soils were not created equally. Often, we think of soil variability on a large scale, between regions or counties, but soil properties can also differ within a field. With this being the case, using the same management strategies across the field can have negative economic and environmental costs. Digital soil mapping provides the opportunity for farmers to tailor management to specific zones based on the soil variability in a given field. Ontario farmers and researchers are implementing soil mapping to improve placement of nutrient inputs, improve yield, and increase overall profitability. Featuring University of Guelph researchers Dr. Asim Biswas, PhD student Tegbaru Gobezie, and Ontario Soil Network farmer Steve Sickle.
