House of the Dragon episode 4 makes a huge connection between AegOn's Song of Ice and Fire dream and GOT's Prince That Was Promised prophecy. House of the Dragon episode 4 dives deeper into the connection between AegOn’s dream and the Prince That Was Promised prophecy from Game of Thrones. HBO’s House of the Dragon is leaning far more into the significance of prophecy, dreams, and magic, which became relatively minimized throughout Game of Thrones. As House of the Dragon’s Targaryens are revealed to be motivated by fulfilling AegOn’s prophecy, the importance of Melisandre’s purpose in finding the Prince That Was Promised is given a new layer. In House of the Dragon’s premiere, King Veeserys revealed to his daughter and new heir, Rhaenayra Targaryen, the secret of AegOn the Conqueror’s prophetic dream, which he called the Song of Ice and Fire. The dream stated that a Targaryen would need to sit on the Iron Throne and unite the realm in order to save the living from the cold and the dark, with the burden of this knowledge being passed onto each Targaryen king (or queen) and their heir. Considering Game of Thrones ended with Targaryen descendants Jon Snow and Daenerys becoming King in the North and Queen of Westeros before uniting the living to defeat the White Walkers, House of the Dragon’s prophecy indeed came true several centuries later. As Veeserys realizes that Rhaenayra’s sex scandal with DAymOn puts her perception as heir in jeopardy, he reveals more to her about the importance of AegOn’s prophecy. The King pulls out the Valyrian steel dagger from Game of Thrones, which is inscribed with AegOn’s dream in High Valyrian. The blade reads, “From my blood come the prince that was promised, and his will be the song of ice and fire.” The former part of the phrase now connects to the seemingly forgotten vision in Game of Thrones, which was the Prince That Was Promised prophecy preached by Melisandre and the followers of the Lord of Light. The Prince That Was Promised prophecy was introduced by Melisandre, a.k.a. the Red Woman, in Game of Thrones season 2. The prophesied Prince is the savior for those following the Lord of Light, who would be born of salt and smoke, pull the sword Lightbringer from the flames, and use it to bring an end to the darkness. At first, Melisandre believes this figure to be Stannis Baratheon, but once he dies, he comes to believe it is the resurrected Jon Snow. However, after being exiled from the North and learning of Daenerys and her dragons, the Red Woman goes to Dragonstone to tell Daenerys that she is the Princess Who Was Promised, as the High Valyrian word used for “prince” is actually gender-neutral. Melisandre adds that Jon Snow plays an important role in the prophecy as well, suggesting the Red Woman came to realize that the prophecy was not entirely referring to one person. This is another point that clearly aligns with House of the Dragon’s newly revealed prophecy. #houseofthedragon #gameofthrones #daenerystargaryen #jonsnow
