Dorel Livianu (b. October 10, 1907, Bucharest - d. April 2, 1997, New York) was a Romanian singer of Jewish origin. He studied singing at the Bucharest Conservatory with the Italian conductor, Egizio Massini. He made his debut at the age of seven, playing the role of the little trumpeter in Giuseppe Verdi's Aida. His musical repertoire includes romances and songs in tango and foxtrot rhythm. Livianu obtained contracts with important record companies, such as His Master's Voice and Columbia Records. Between 1939 and 1945, he worked at the Baraseum Theater in Bucharest. Also in these years he records many Yiddish folk songs. He was deported to a Transnistrian camp by Romanian fascists, but he released after eight months due to his fame. In 1967 he settled in the United States; however, he sometimes returned to Romania to give concerts. Livianu married Mella Silberstein in 1939. Their only son, David Bogdan was born in 1955.
