Jiang Yanchen, a "folded boy" in China's Shandong Province who has attracted much attention, received his first surgery on May 25 to reposition his reversely folded spine by at least 90 degrees.
Jiang Yancen is 19 years old this year, from Dezhou, Shandong, and is a freshman at Dezhou Academy. He said he's been kneeling in class because of his condition since 3rd or 4th grade, and that his knees are now numb after all these years.
The result of the first surgery exceeded expectations, accomplishing half of the progress of the entire treatment plan. Although more surgery and rehab are needed, Jiang may one day be able to sit up in class like his classmates.
